Abstract: We will propose that Merge is not freely applicable. Its application is strictly restricted regarding selectional restriction, i.e. feature matching. In this article, it will be shown that a category, C strictly fi nds a suitable partner in the process of operation: Merge. In its application, Tensed nominals can be considered which are observed across language families in the world. That implies that the phenomenon seems to stem from a mechanism universally. We will fi nd some characteristics of Tensed nominals. Then, we will argue that a parallelism between nominal structures and clauses is attested.
