On the Nature of Nouns

Abstract

We will propose that Merge is not freely applicable. Its application is strictly restricted regarding selectional restriction, i.e. feature matching. In this article, it will be shown that a category, C strictly fi nds a suitable partner in the process of operation: Merge. In its application, Tensed nominals can be considered which are observed across language families in the world. That implies that the phenomenon seems to stem from a mechanism universally. We will fi nd some characteristics of Tensed nominals. Then, we will argue that a parallelism between nominal structures and clauses is attested.
